Chilean miners trapped thousands of feet underground for 69 days are about to begin a six-night vacation at Walt Disney World. Thirty-one of the 33 miners, plus four key rescuers and members of their families arrive in Florida on Thursday. They were invited by Disney President and CEO Bob Iger late last year.
There are about 160 people in the Chilean party, and they range from 2 months old to 64 years old.
On Monday afternoon, the public can see the group serving as grand marshals of a special parade at Magic Kingdom. Step-off time on Main Street will be 2:15 p.m.
Otherwise, the Chileans will be in vacation mode, with plans to visit all four theme parks, a character dinner, a group photo in front of Cinderella Castle and Chilean food prepared by Disney chefs. Each family also will receive a $500 Disney gift card.
