Universal Studios: Say goodbye to Jimmy Neutron ride

14 March 2011 by By Dewayne Bevil, Orlando Sentinel

Jimmy Neutron’s days are numbered at Universal Studios. The theme park announced Monday that the Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast attraction, will close on April 1 to begin preparations for a new attraction in that space.

Universal did not give details about the replacement attraction, but Internet speculation revolves around the “Despicable Me” movie that was released last year.

Universal’s press release says the new attraction will be “a natural fit” for the theme park and that it’s “just one of many exciting things planned for the next couple of years.”

Although the attraction will be shuttered April 1, Universal says it will reopen periodically this spring and summer. It will close permanently on Aug. 18, Universal says.

Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon blast is a simulator ride near the front of Universal Studios theme park, recognizable by Nickelodeon splatter of paint near the top of the building. It opened in April of 2003, replacing The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera, which was one of the first rides in the Universal park when it opened in 1990.
