According to the tourist organisation Visit Orlando, over 50 million visitors took Florida holidays to the city over the course of the last year, making 2010 a record breaking year for the sunny, family fun orientated holiday destination.
Visit Orlando said that over 51.5 million visitors took Florida holidays in 2010, making Orlando the first city in all of the USA to reach the 50 million-plus milestone. Compared with the 46.6 million holidaymakers in that arrived in 2009 this was a significant leap in visitor numbers, amounting to an additional 10.5 per cent.
Of the total visitors who took cheap flights to Orlando, 3.7 million of them were foreign visitors, emphasising just how popular Disney World holidays are across the world. In addition to the delights of the Disney castle and surrounding theme park, Orlando has a vast array of entertainment parks and themed attractions, such as Universal Studios and innumerable water parks.
Many of the millions of international visitors were eager Britons snapping up cheap flights deals from premier carriers such as Virgin Atlantic, Delta Airways and British Airways.
Visit Orlando president and chief executive Gary Sain was most impressed by the results. He added that in his opinion much of the city’s success in attracting tourists was due to the Orlando tourist industry's willingness to invest in continually improving on its attractions and accommodation for its burgeoning tourist trade.
"Visit Orlando launched aggressive global marketing campaigns showing that Orlando offers visitors something they can't get anywhere else - world-famous attractions, value for their money and an experience they will never forget," Mr Sain declared.
