While Disney World and Disneyland might never transform Tom Sawyer Island into a set from 'Lost' as fans of the show have requested, Imagineers at the recent International Associations of Amusement Parks and Attractions, which was held in Las Vegas, reportedly said that a 'Lost' ride is being kicked around as a very real possibility and development ideas are being kicked around.
According to Movie Line, the attraction would use the same technology rumored to be behind the Harry Potter ride at Universal and already in use at Disney's Epcot theme park in "The Sum of All Thrills." It would involve a robot arm with a wide range of movement that can take riders right into a movie (in Universal's case) or a television show (if the 'Lost' ride does indeed become reality). A Kuka robot arm coaster at Legoland in Germany is shown at right.
Disney reps are currently denying that a 'Lost' attraction is in development, Movie Line reports, but they also will not rule the option out for the future. It's not clear which of the Disney theme parks the ride would show up at, although Disney Hollywood Studios has a movie and television theme and features television-related attractions like "The American Idol Experience" and the "Twilight Zone Tower of Terror," which is also in Disney's California Adventure.
