Today the Disney Parks Blog has announced new details about Space Mountain, which is poised to reopen after a length refurbishment. The roller coaster is located in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom theme park. Although its official opening is slated for later this month, rumors seem to indicate that a soft opening could occur late this week or early next week.
The blog says that Space Mountain now features an extended storyline, drawing guests in on a space station adventure. As part of the new experience, they can participate in games like deflecting meteors while they wait. Each game takes 90 seconds, and 86 guests can play at a time.
Disney promises that its most loyal fans will find special personalized touches. For example, there is a sign that says H-NCH 1975. This is a tribute to the late John Hench, a legendary Imagineer. Keep an eye out for other "insider" references.
