Disney World bus driver not responsible for death of 9-year-old boy

14 June 2010 by Disney Travel Examiner - Debra Peterson

The Florida Highway released its report Monday on the fatal accident between a 9 year-old-boy and a Walt Disney World bus Investigators have determined that the boy, Chase Brubaker, was “solely responsible.”

The April 1 collision occurred near the Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, when Brubaker crossed into the path of the bus and hit the bus. The FHP report indicates Brubaker’s bicycle was in an “unsafe condition,” with an under-inflated front tire and flat rear tire that might have contributed to the accident.

These factors could have contributed to the crash as Chase left the sidewalk, entered the southbound lane and struck the right side of the bus.

The FHP report indicated the bus was traveling in the same direction as Brubaker, when Brubaker left the sidewalk area and struck the right side of the bus. The boy was pulled under the rear wheels. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus was carrying 28 people, none of whom were injured in the collision.

FHP also Walt Disney World Resort bus driver David Rich was not at fault. No charges will be filed against Rich.

The FHP investigation is now closed.
