It's almost time to call it a day for Block Party Bash, the afternoon parading performance at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The promenade of Pixar characters, which debuted at Disney World in early 2008, will make its last run on Jan. 1. The production has its detractors. "It's just not Disney" is a common refrain among them, but I say "must everything be so Mickey-centric or packed with princesses?" Here are five things I always enjoyed about the Bash:
•The Green Army Men, 'Toy Story' alumni, barking commands and sometimes cleverly straying from the script.
•The fun trampoliners, jumping above the blacktop of the theme park and adding a smidge of danger.
•Little Boo, from 'Monsters, Inc.,' perhaps the cutest costumed character ever.
•Disney went with non-Disney music, which inspired kids to dance in the streets, despite oddly altered lyrics ("You make me want to … scream"?)
•The finale, which included surprise guests and an avalanche of rubber balls. Name something else free you've received at Disney.
