Another baby has arrived at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. A male, white-cheeked gibbon arrived Feb. 2, to mother Melaka. Theme park guests can see the newborn (name TBA), mother and two sisters in their habitat near the Kali River Rapids attraction.
Here’s a miracle-of-nature gibbon factoid from our friends at Disney. They’re born with golden-colored fur so as to blind in with the mother. Once weened (at about age 1 year), the fur turns black. Male gibbons keep that black fur all their lives, but females around age 6 or 8 go gold again.
Let’s stand in a circle and sing “Circle of Life.”
