911 call: Woman was unconscious after Disney boat crash.

28 April 2010 by Anika Myers Palm and Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel

Barbara Wormald was unconscious in the moments after being involved in a boat crash last week at Walt Disney World near the Treehouse Villas, according to a 911 call following the accident.

In the 911 call, released today by the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the emergency caller said the people involved in the boating accident were located on a dock or "Treehouse Dock" in the Saratoga Springs section of the resort.

"We had a boat run into another boat," the caller told the 911 operator. "A woman is unconscious. . . . The last time I got word from them, she was unconscious," he told a 911 operator. "I just know it was a small Sea Racer and one of our bigger boats."

The caller said "Lake Patrol" was on the scene and getting other Sea Racer vessels off the water.

Wormald, 61, of Celebration and Skipton, England, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for a collapsed lung, fractured ribs and back pain, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Wormald and her husband, Michael, had rented a small boat at Downtown Disney and began to make their way through the Walt Disney World Resort waterways, the Sheriff's Office said. At some point, the two found themselves in the path of a ferry.

Michael Wormald told a sheriff's deputy that he turned to the right too late to avoid the ferry.

William Green, the captain of the ferry, told authorities he put the ferry in reverse when it crashed into the boat.

The Wormalds' boat went under the ferry, and Barbara Wormald was wedged between the ferry and the small boat.

Wormald could not be reached for comment. She remains at ORMC.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
